Research Paper TopicsOne of the main disadvantages of conducting historical research paper on US history is the difficulty in coming up with good research paper topics. Sometimes, it can be quite difficult to come up with good research paper topics when we have a strong political leaning towards one particular ideology or another.When I write about US history in general, the first thing that comes to mind is the American Revolution. Although I do not lean towards that viewpoint in particular, many others lean towards it. In a way, it would be unfair to say that one specific topic is in itself objectionable.For example, the Founding Fathers of the United States were American men of great accomplishment and with whom I have a great deal of respect. I like to think that all good Americans should not be judged solely by the view that someone who disagrees with them was only 'too young to know better'. So I tend to lean more towards what Thomas Jefferson said in his famous line, 'We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights; that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.'However, there is additional political leanings which I feel, in my own humble opinion, ought to be included in such topics. For example, were there any political figures who were black? If I have a two or three-year-old son, who has aspirations to become a politician, and I have a choice between him sitting around on his hands waiting for his turn to speak in the school assembly or engaging in political debate at a debate club, I am more likely to choose the latter. It would also be quite interesting to know how often Barack Obama attended a church or synagogue.Would you believe that it was 'one of the best speeches of his presidential career' was a speech given by a lady who expressed her sympathy for the people of South Africa who did not share the people's opinions in this matter? It was not known who she was, but it certainly would have been difficult to ascertain that her views were those of the majority of the people. On the other hand, as a politician, and I am sure that you understand that politics is a deeply emotional issue and you would probably love to make a speech, but if you had a member of the audience who did not want a war with South Africa and told the politician that she wished she could vote against the war and now he had a strong majority, then how likely is it that he would have made a different speech?There are many more examples of US history. Indeed, any political views of the United States could well be included in such topics as the civil rights movement, the civil rights legislation of the 60s, the economic downturn that the country has been experiencing over the last decade, the Wall Street bailout, the war in Iraq, the war in Afghanistan, the debate about gay marriage, etc.The point is that these things do not matter as much in te rms of how people see the world, as such historical events. What matters is what it means to the individual person. Do they mean something special to you, and does your research paper relate to them in some way?Therefore, how to come up with good research paper topics? For me, it is always easier to do the research myself than to have somebody else do it for me. So when it comes to that research, I personally always try to come up with my own research topics on my own.
